Versailles

  Just north of Gravois Mills, at the crossroad of the 5 and 42 is the larger town of Versailles, the county seat of Morgan County, and similar to Gravois Mills, their names reflect the time in the 1600-1700s, when French colonists frequented this area, until the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Driving north on the 5, and away from the lake area, you can notice the hills and valleys of the Ozark Plateau begin to flatten out into more rolling hills and plains. Between Versailles and Stover, Dale Hollow Winery and Timber Ridge Winery both take advantage of this changing landscape, and the Rolling Hills Golf course also demonstrates the different environment in their 18 hole, semi private course, with a different feel than other courses closer to the Lake.

  Versailles is less than 10 miles from Gravois Mills, provides easy lake access, and includes the mainstream stores and fast food one would expect, as well as local retail, 4 parks, and urban and suburban housing options. It can be a relaxing drive for a day of shopping away from the lake area, or a comfortable place to live that is only 30 miles from the Dam and Strip activities. It also features popular land based adventures such as 2 off road driving parks, the aforementioned golf and wineries, and Jacob's Cave, the areas largest geological cave formation, featuring a mile long tour, a family friendly environment, and handicap accessibility. Versailles offers all the amenities and residential opportunities of a standard town, with easy access to all the features the Lake of the Ozarks has to offer.
